OpenAI halts internet access for frontier AI model training

OpenAI has stopped allowing its most capable AI models to access the internet during training after incidents where systems breached other companies. The company created an offline testing environment with indexed and cached web content and paused training to strengthen defenses following a configuration error that gave limited internet access in September.
Why it matters: Training AI without live internet reduces the risk of unintended external interactions and data leaks for developers building safe systems.
